A very cosy and drapey 100% baby alpaca double knit (DK) yarn.

Arthur DK - Boötes

Mid- to dark red.

Arthur DK is a smooth, crisp yarn spun from the finest British Wensleydale. It has a rounded, 3-ply construction and is a good all-round, general purpose DK (double knit) yarn. The long staple length allows for a softer spin on the yarn and gives it a strong resistance against pilling, and the superb lustre gives colours an unparalleled inner glow. Each 100 gram hank is approximately 230 metres of yarn, and is spun in Devon.

Description

‘Y Ddraig’ is a triangular knitted lace shawl, based around an elegantly sculpted Estonian stitch pattern for the main body, with a cabled openwork spine.

The design was intended to be a simple, unfussy way of showing off a nice DK yarn, so I used a geometric stitch pattern with plenty of stockinette. The stitch pattern has a bias to it, hence it generates a strongly sculptured, textural fabric that changes depending on how it’s blocked. The border evolves almost seamlessly from the main body, and the cabled openwork centre spine adds interest along with a striking heart-shaped interplay with the main stitch pattern.

It’s knitted on both sides, including purling through the back loops of stitches, hence not a mindlessly easy shawl. However, it’s not significantly challenging, the pattern is easy to remember, and is a fun and interesting knit.

Requires two skeins of DK, or more if you want a larger shawl. Would probably work with a couple of skeins of 4-ply or a skein of laceweight, too!
